Network rail's award-winning work carried out in Phase One of improvements to Paddington station comprised a £65 million facelift to the original 1850s Brunel structure. This scheme, designed by architects Nicholas Grimshaw, provides an entirely new customer information system and the refurbishment of The Lawn (concourse) area to provide an additional 50,000 sq ft of retail, bar and restaurant facilities.
Network Rail has embarked upon a major, £26 million refurbishment programme of span 4 and the upper platforms of Paddington Station, set to be completed in 2010.
